DaFiN was developed by Andy Cochran, an Australian waterman who has called Hawaii home since the 1970s. A former lifeguard at Bondi Beach and early surfing pioneer, Cochran designed the first DaFiN prototype in the mid-1990s, shaping it from a simple wooden block. After initial production in Australia, the fins were tested in Hawaii by renowned watermen and lifeguards Mark Cunningham and Brian Keaulana.
Together, they set out to create a powerful, comfortable, and versatile swim fin designed primarily for ocean lifeguards. With valuable feedback and continuous refinement, DaFiN evolved into one of the most respected swim fins in the world. Today, the brand is further developed with the involvement of Andy’s son, Kenui Cochran.
DaFiN swim fins are made from high-quality natural Malaysian rubber using a proprietary process that combines two different rubber densities. The blade delivers strong resistance for maximum propulsion, while remaining flexible where needed. This reduces drag on the upkick and helps minimise leg strain and cramping. Despite their power, DaFiN fins are among the lightest swim fins available, reducing fatigue during long sessions.
DaFiN swim fins are ideal for bodysurfing, bodyboarding, surf training, and cold-water ocean use. Designed for performance, durability, and control, DaFiN delivers the power and reliability needed in demanding North Sea conditions.
